WI – December 2022

by | Jan 8, 2023 | WI

Our last meeting was on Thursday 8th December 2022 when we joined by Majestic Wines who talked us through various wines and the cheeses that go with them.  Several members braved the winter weather and we all had fun, some more than others!!, sampling the variety of wines.  The evening kicked off with a non-alcoholic white wine, Noughty Chardonnay.  We then sampled a Sauvignon Blanc, a Rose, a red then finishing off with a dessert wine.  We had several cheeses to taste with the different wines including cheddar, goats and camembert.  However, I must admit that I completely forgot to take notes so apologies for the lack of information – that non-alcoholic wine must have been good!!  We ended the evening with mince pies.  Thank you to the committee for organising all the nibbles for the evening.

Now I would like to ask you to cast your mind back to the wonderful poppy display that was on the church to commemorate Remembrance Sunday.  The idea was master minded by Christine Dollery who managed the project for about 9 months.  Many members of the WI and wider village produced knitted, crocheted and felt poppies in red, purple and white and I’m sure you’ll all agree it was a wonderful display.  A photo was published in the Hampshire Federation WI monthly magazine.

Our next meetings are as follows:

  • Thursday 9th February 2023:  Oakley Stitchers and Knitted Knockers!  Come along to find out more about this local group that uses their skills and hobbies to provide support to others.
  • Thursday 9th March 2023:  Our 87th Birthday Party when we will be entertained by Steve Herra with a “solve a mystery” supper talk “The Body through the Porthole”.

If you are interested in joining us at one of our Meetings, held in the Rathbone Pavilion, please contact Carolyn Brown
