Village Pond Update

by | Feb 26, 2023 | Parish Council

With the kind support of a village resident acting as project manager, North Waltham Parish Council has been investigating potential improvements to the village pond. Our key objectives are to improve the water quality, the pond’s aesthetics, and the location’s ecology.

After some initial fact-finding, we have discovered that due to its location, the pond suffers from significant run-off from both Yew Tree Road and Popham Lane, contributing to an increasing sludge and pollution problem. As a result, the pond will require an extensive clean-up with complete water and sediment removal.

Initial estimations for the works are more than £30,000. As such, the Parish Council must look into raising the necessary funds. However, such a significant project provides the community with a unique opportunity. As part of the planning, there is the chance to re-evaluate the pond’s design, its surroundings and how we can best use the space to improve a key asset in the heart of the village.

The Parish Council will continue to investigate this to ensure we get the correct outcomes for the village. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts to this, and exploring every opportunity may be time-consuming. We will, however, continue to issue regular updates on our progress.
