As many residents will be aware, the Parish Council and its appointed Pond Refurbishment Manager have been doing a lot of work over the past year to investigate how we can improve the pond and implement long-term solutions for its maintenance in the future. This has proven to be a complex process, and there are a number of laws we have to follow, for example the removal and dumping of waste.
Our village pond is situated downhill of the three main roads in the village and as such suffers from road run off. This results in significant deposit build up, which also effects the water levels in the pond. The recent dry weather has exasperated the situation, making for a sorry sight which has understandably caused concern to many residents.
Works will be commencing on the pond in the coming weeks to remove the deposit build up and rectify the current problems. The works will be in stages, starting with the removal of the waste, followed by inspection and assessment of the liner, refilling the pond and planting of the area. The mummy duck and her babies will be carefully rehomed before any works start, which will be much easier now that they have grown a bit more. There may be some noise and traffic disruption whilst this work is conducted; although efforts are being made to mitigate this as much as possible by conducting the works during the school holidays. Discussions with contractors are ongoing and more details on the refurbishment will be shared with everyone in due course.
