Basingstoke Choral Society

by | Nov 18, 2016 | Uncategorised

Basingstoke Choral Society’s next concert at the Anvil, conducted by David Gibson, will truly be ‘all-singing, all-dancing’.

The main choral work will be Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. The piece opens with the instantly recognisable ‘O Fortuna’ chorus, which as a child of the 70s you may remember from the Old Spice advert, or perhaps you now watch the X Factor. The Resonance Youth Dance Company will also perform a specially choreographed programme to the ‘O Fortuna’ chorus.

The second piece, for choir and piano, is the Rio Grande composed by Constant Lambert, a charismatic and pivotal figure in the arts and music scene in 1930s London. He counted William Walton and Margot Fonteyn amongst his close friends. This, his best known composition, is full of ‘ zing and pazazz’ and featured a dozen times at the Proms in his lifetime. William Walton had his own share of fame in 1931 with his Façade suite which will also feature in this concert.

See attached programme.
Sunday 27th November at 7.00pm. Tickets available from the Anvil on 01256 844244 or www.anvilarts.org

This promises to be a hugely entertaining evening!
